This morning I heated up some Potatoes.

Potatoes are quite likely the best damn winter food I know of. They are cheaper than pretty much anything else, from a price/bulk perspective. Preparation is a breeze, owing to the fact that all you need to do is wash them, poke them with a fork, wrap them in foil, and toss them in an oven set for 350. You let them bake while you get ready for the day, and turn off the oven and take them out right as you head for the door. For the next two hours you've got excellent hand/pocket warmers while you wait for them to cool down. Right as you start getting ready for a mid-morning snack, they are cool enough that you can have tasty warm potatoe. After lunch, when you want a mid-afternoon snack, the second one is right there and you can have tasty cool potatoe.

I'm tellin' ya, ya can't go wrong with potatoes in the winter time.

Or Vodka.

But then you'd be letting them ferment and not eating their yummy goodness.

I was having some chilli cheese fries and garlic fries last night, and I had an epiphany - get some red potatoes (which make for wonderful homemade fries), slice them up and make a chili-cheese-n-garlic potato dish, au grautin style.

My personal favorite bulk food is rice, but not for reasons similar to ones you give above.

hrmm.. see, I'm not a big fan of most chili-derived thangs (like chili-cheeze fries), so I'm not sure I'd go for that dish all that much. It does sound like it'd be quite yummy, though, to someone who did like that stuff.

Oh, I know you're not, but I thought I'd share the idea anyway. Creating new dishes is a hobby of mine - one that got me thinking about becoming a chef. But I think that I would not be all that great at it professionally, so I just cook for my myself and my friends who enjoy my creations.

last I checked, 'potatoe' is an accepted spelling of the name of that fine starchy tuber. While more Old-English, and certainly not American, it is correct and not a misspelling.

What's your point?
