8:53 - My weekend (short version)

Previous Entry Share Flag Next Entry

I've not the time at the moment to type up a whole review.

Let's just say that NoiseFest was, as usual, a fantastic experiance for me.

The only problem being that I am SO not in a mood to actually work today. I just want to curl up with some headphones on listening to various bits from the CDs I got at the fest. Now I really need to get a walkman, becuase there's no way anyone I know is going to tolerate my playing it over the stereo.

I've been digging on my MP3 player that I mentioned to you awhile ago.

The only complaints I have on it are that there's no countback (something I got quite used to and liked at the studio). The battery life isn't bad for a hard-drive based player either, and it's not much effort to take the charger with you to work.

You know you want to fill 5GBs with Noise :)

yeah, I'm wary of encoding noise. I've found that while 128 often works fine for normal music, you need to up it to 192(minimum) for Jungle (due to its complexity) -- how high will noise have to go? Also, will the limitations of the MP3 format force the encoder to cut off some of the songs (too high frequency, to rapid a change in the song, too loud/soft, etc...)? I'll likely not wind up saving much in the say of space due to the high bitrate (possibly 320) and even then I might loose some quality.

I'll have to run some tests to figure this one out.

As for 5GB.. hrmmm.. let's say 190 is what I end up using, so it is a little more than a meg a minute.. that's probably about 4500 minutes of noise. hrmm.. that's 75 hours of noise. damn, I'll have to go get more to fill it up, I only have about 35-40 CDs right now.

Well, if you're that concerned about encoding loss, I believe that MP3 players like the Creative Nomad series (The one I have) also play WAVs. I can verify for you if mine does.

I hope to put together some CDs that will appeal to the various different musical tastes, which I can then give out to people. That way you could just tell me, "Hey, I like mellow type stuff" and I'll have a CD of "Mellow" Noise I can hand you.

I just need to find time to filter through all the stuff I have.

Count me in. For both "Mellow" and "Aggro/Hardcore" styles. And stuff in between.
