If you do Montana, may I highly recommend, with all my heart and soul, making a run up "going to the sun highway" in Glacier Park? It is, hands down, one of the most beautiful places on the face of the US, as far as I am concerned.

How goes the shaving? Just picked up a sampler pack of soaps from thegentlemansquarter.com, and they smell AWESOME.

not sure I'll have time for it this trip, but I'll make a note of it for future trips. Thanks for the tip.

The shaving goes. I'm gaining a feel for how to properly hone the blade. I haven't tried using any oils or shaving cream yet, just cleaning my face in a shower beforehand and keeping plenty of water on the area I'm shaving. So I'm finding having the blade honed to the right amount is rather important. Under or over honed and it *hurts* (not sure if it would hurt less if I used shaving cream, but I'm tempted some days). Heck, I'm finding I sometimes have to re-strop about three or four times before I can get my face done. I'm still mostly just using the straight razor to do everything but the goatee area, and getting them with a cartridge razor. But I'm getting better at maintaining the edge proper so I should be able to move to only using the straight razor soon enough.

After trying one cheek a week or so ago with just water, I really suggest shaving cream or soap. Really makes a difference. With water didn't necessarily "hurt", but it was uncomfortable, and my razor is QUITE sharp.

I have yet to try honing, as I have no stones. Someday!

yeah, it's not so bad with just water if the edge is kept just right. it just takes more care, that's all.

I may try cream at some point, but I'm not sure I want to add in the requirement of needing shaving cream just yet. it's kinda nice right now, not needing it -- it fits well with the whole 'minimalism' thing I'm working with.
