It's pretty damn sexy. I just hope that cell phone companies don't ruin the excellent Apple experience.

well, for the first few years it will be just Cingular, and it looked like Steve's phone was online with Cingular at the time of the presentation, so I'm expecting that the UI we saw was the UI we'd eventually (in June) get. Also, rumour has it that the phone would be supported by Apple, not Cingular. So it looks like the the cell companies (after it is eventually opened up) would only handle the network connection, the rest is Apple. Also, I can't see Apple letting anyone else screw up the UI on a product bearing the actual Apple logo. After all, UI is really all Apple is known for anymore (some would argue hardware is also what they were once known for, but that has gone by the wayside in recent years).

That makes more sense if they have an exclusive deal with Cingular. Too bad I just cancelled my Cingular account. :)

yeah, the keynote mentioned that Apple had signed a multi-year exclusive to let Cingular have the iPhone. They didn't say how many years, I can't see it being more than two, since a generation in cellphone time is less than that, they probably plan to delay the iPhone2 and have that be multi-carrier. Or they'll just stick with Cingular -- we'll see!
