I'm looking at dyeing my hair a wacky colour this weekend. Thing is, I want it to only be temporary. Anyone ever done temp dye-jobs? how temporary are they? How difficult are they to apply and how difficult to remove? I'm guessing, what with the local seasonal crap going on, Evangeline's would have a nice selection, am I correct in this?

If you are dying your hair, the color isn't going to show up that well unless you bleach it first, therefore making it very, very, not temporary. If you don't bleach it, you will end up with highlights in the color you use. Basically, your hair will look pretty much the same except when in the sun or under certain lighting when it will have a colored tint.

Your best bet, if you want a visible color, is to use one of the sprays or gels. They don't tend to look as good, since they sit on the surface of the hair rather than sinking in, but some of them are getting to the point where they don't look terrible.

hrmm.. yes, I hadn't considered the futility of attempting to dye dark hair. highlights wouldn't be too bad, though. thanks for the info.

They also make your hair terribly stiff.

yeah, I'm hoping to avoid that fate.. I still want my hair to be somewhat manageable (well, at lest not any less than it currently is).

Depends on how temporary, and what you want to do. I've never bleached, because I don't want crunchy hair, but I can do a red overlay on my hair and have it work, or a purple or blue. It tend sto give the hair a cast rather than making it a bright red or purple or blue. It washes out in about two weeks, depending on how otften you wash your hair. I've used Special Effects, mostly. You can also go for the colored hair gels, which give a brighter color but only last through one wash.

ah, excellent. And your hair is a somewhat darker sade, like mine, so I should be able to get similar results.. I'll have to go poking around for Special Effects and see what is involved. Thank you for the tips!
