so, the questions are thus: is this a reasonable size? I think it's a reasonably small file and won't bog down folk's friends page too much, but there is an even smaller thumbnail option available. Another option, which I'm vaguely considering, is simply to set up a seperate LJ for this stuff. that way y'all could just friend it or not depending on your reading prefs (or have in in a non-default reading view, etc..)

what would work best for y'all?

I have the placeholders option on, so I don't load pix by default.

yeah, the original pics are 1280x960 but flickr doesn't store them.. I'd have to pay for them to keep full-size pics. am still looking for another place that will store the full-size pics for free and still post to my lj as well (though I doubt such can be had).

well, space isn't the issue at the moment. Da Gazebo has about 5GB of disk quota still open, so I can just dump the pics there if need be -- though I do thank you greatly for the offer of space. The problem comes in with the auto-posting (and if you have any ideas to solve this issue I'm all ears).

With Flickr, and this is the reason I'm going with them for now, all I have to do is take the picture on my phone, and then tell the phone to send a MMS message to the email addy for flickr. upon receipt of that message, Flickr strips out the text appended at the bottom by Cingular, resizes the attatched photo, adds it to my flickr gallery and then automatically puts the entry into my lj with a thumbnail linked to that picture in the flickr gallery. Any subject I type in the MMS message becomes the picture title in flickr and the subject of the LJ post. Any other text I put in there gets stored with the picture and added to the LJ post under the picture.

I'd like to have all this done on my domain, but am having difficulty figuring out how to make it all triggered when the email arrives.

Cron job that runs a script that pops any new mail on a mail box and then processes it.
