11:22 - can you say "caffiene tolerance"?

Previous Entry Share Flag Next Entry

so, I slept in today by a considerable ammount and was a touch tired getting to work, so I decided to stop by the Java City for a drink. Feeling a touch tired I opted for a medium coffee with three shots of espresso added to it.

Not only am I not jittery, but I'm still a little tired.

Damnit, I want caffiene to affect me once again! This isn't fair! Other people get to drink a double-shot mocha and get all jittery for the rest of the evening, and here I am with three shots and a cup full of coffee and almost *nothing*! I'm munching on caffienated mints at the moment and brewing some black tea, doubt any of that will help either.

grrrrr...

If you cut back for a few weeks, and dwindle down to little or none, you'll feel it again.

I did that when I worked back at SacWeb. The CEO commended me for drinking water one day, and I told him I cut myself off so I could feel the Mountain Dew love again.

Then he laughed and said I was like a heroin addict.

You're body is breaking down the caffeine too fast. Eat some grapefruit.

grapefruit slows the breaking down of caffiene? I'd not heard that.

Or are you just being wonderfully random and suggesting I eat grapefruit simply to see if I do it?

See, this is the "double-edged sword" I talk about when I'm being Ryan Fucking Macklin. People question you like a mofo.

But, yes, I'm being serious. I don't feel like looking it up now, but grapefruit has a protein or enzyme in is that counteracts the body's process of breaking down caffeine (and some other medications, so onlookers may wanna talk to their doc before ingesting massive qualtities of grapefruit and taking their regularly scheduled pills). Less so with pink grapefruit - basicly, mo' bittah, mo' bettah.

My first reference for this is a 2600 article a long time about about caffeine. Then I talked with some peopel about it, and found out about how it affects many drugs. But the specific data isn't handy in my brain right now, but I'm sure it can be googled.
