the kind you clean up with a mop and bucket
So, last night ktbee and I had a nice quiet evening. I went straight over to her place after work, and she was just starting melting the fondue cheese as I arrived. Excellent timing, considering that the Light Rail train I had initially planned to ride never happened (musta been some problem earlier in the line or something, we were never informed what happened to cause the delay). She had enjoyed the mustard/cheese selection from graphxgrrl's party so much that she wanted to repeat the experiance with some variation for our un-anniversary (more on that later) dinner. I had the joy of lighting the fondue warmer (nearly loosing the hairs on my finger in the process) and carrying the flaming contraption to the living room for eats (don't ask me why neither of us thought to carry it *unlit* and then light it there). Then we sat down for a nice, romantic, special evening for us.
It was terribly wonderful just sitting there next to her, talking about our day, leaning up against her and occasionally feeding eachother little bits of bread with heated cheese on them. Then after we both decided that we had had *far* too much cheese (good, but heavy) she goes into her room and comes back with a present for me.
Much though she knows my feelings on getting date-based gifts, I also know how important it is to her (and, frankly, she's in a position to be allowed some exemption from lots of stuff -- yes, it's unfair. deal with it.) so we compromise and I don't throw a fit if she keeps it to a minimum.
So, anyway, as I was saying, she brings out a little present and a card, all hand-done card just like I love the most. It's a moving, sappy testimony that I won't trouble you all with, but suffice to say that I was quite touched. I then opened the box to find out why she had stolen my ring a while back (I had my suspicions, but nothing much): she had gotten me a ring. It's a simple, solid white gold piece that is only *slightly* too big (my old ring having proven inadequate for getting a proper sizing from) but still fits nicely and feels wonderful to wear. It has a healthy (but not uncomfortable) weight that is far more noticeable than my last ring, and when I see it I'm reminded of her. It's just nice to have a little doodad from mah sweetie -- gives me the warm fuzzies. :)
After the presentation, we went for a nice calm walk around midtown, just walking along holding hands and talking. Helped to settle the dinner (damn good, but I ate *way* too much) and as allways it was just nice to spend time together.
About the only dissapointment from the whole evening was when we got back from the walk, and decided it would be nice to try the desert she had made the previous evening (home-made desert cake -- how can one resist?). It was wonderful, but unfortunately we were both so stuffed from the dinner that we couldn't do anything more than share one piece! what a let-down to have such a yummy cake made espicially for the special evening and not being able to eat much at all because dinner was too damn good! :)
