well, isn't *that* special?

damn.

I found out yesterday that one of my long-time friends is haveing an engagement party this weekend.

Moreover I find out that it's been planned for quite some time now. For some reason, though, I don't remember being told or invited or anything.

Is it their fault? I don't think so. Will it be a lot of people I don't know? It's mostly the familly of the person who my friend is marrying, so yes. Would I have a fun time if I did go? Not overly likely. Do I really, really want to go? Yes, most certainly.

Can I go? No.

This sucks. Not knowing to keep the weekend open, I've scheduled having my wisdom teeth pulled this Thursday and I'm working my other job this Saturday. As a result, rather than going to the party and congradulating them, I'll be standing in a store trying to sell games to people while I'm high on Vicadin.

game night review

It started innocently enough with a game of Tile Chess between macklinr and myself. Near the end, tobin showed up and watched me get my ass handed to me on a platter. ox_number_10 had been watching all along, learning the game through a mixture of our moves and occasional explaination for the reasoning behind them.

I don't like that game. Never really have, and macklinr knows that, but I can at least tolerate it more than Nightmare Chess (which is what he also wanted to play but I knew I simply wasn't up for it).

After I got trounced in Tile Chess, we decided to break out Starfarers of Catan and played a DAMN CLOSE 4 player game on the board with the 5-6 player expansions included. Thus there was not as much cut-throat competition and we were able to each persue our own methodology for interstellar growth. Macklinr unfortunately had to leave early due to time constraints, which was really lame because at that point he was in the lead by 2 points over second place and he also had the furthest-out colony/spaceport and was set up for a sweet run on the final third of the game. After he left, the rest of us slowly climbed up the points chart, sometimes in a three-way tie sometimes spread one point behind one another. Eventually Tobin managed to take the win, though, with Ox#10 only 1 point behind him and myself bringing up the rear at 3 points behind.

Easilly one of the best games of Starfarers I've ever played in. I look forward to perhaps playing it again soon.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

GAH!

Spent 20 minutes trying to make a picture come out this morning, just couldn't get the view right to get all the points in the frame in the right way, so I decide that I'll try to make it a multi-part picture and I'll just stitch the images together.

Well, THAT didn't work. :( I'll have to bring in my tripod tomorrow to try and make the images more level and even. One of them is tilted one way, another is tilted the opposite, and then there's vertical mis-alignments and the joys of lens optical distortion as well.

Crap.

And I just *know* that tomorrow's fog isn't going to be as dense and the image just won't turn out the same. ARGH, this is what makes Photography so damn frustrating! If I don't get it right the first time, there is almost never a second chance. grrrrrr..
